Today Ellis and I were playing "Little One" (this is what she calls it when she's the mom and Gabe or I are the kid). She put me to bed in the same fashion she is put to bed: she sang me a song, scratched my back, said a prayer, got me some water, told me a story (yes, we go through this routine every night) and covered me up. As she left the room she added, "If you yell I have to go POTTY! I'll wake up every time." Clearly she knows how to work the system.
Something clicked in Ellis' head and now she is a rhyming machine. Sometimes in her non-angry rhyming tirades an inappropriate word (that she doesn't know) comes out here or there. It makes Gabe and I giggle every time. We're pretty immature.
Yesterday I put Maci down on her back on her play-mat and ran into the kitchen for a second. When I came back out she was on her belly. We made eye contact and she just started laughing, like Mom! Do you KNOW what I just did??

Weird
Maci rolled over from her belly to her back for the first time two days
ago and I got to see it as it happened. You go, Maci. We both got very
excited and, if I remember correctly, high-fived each other. Except it
was pretty low because she's a baby and she was lying on the floor. So
it was only like 6 inches off the floor.
Ellis has invented the "Tocky Monster" and it's sort of hilarious to us. She bends her finger tightly the way you would if you were signing the letter "e", arms up, slightly stifled smile combined with a furrowed brow and her deepest voice, saying, "I'm the Tocky Monster...Rawwrrr!" and then the chase begins.
Some of the monikers she's invented for her dolls and stuffed animals: Shashu-Bashu, Donk, Bock, Bonk Bonk Bonk, and an endless amount of nonsense words that couldn't possibly be repeated twice correctly, let alone spelled out using the English language.
I digress.
Because Macia woke up at 4:30 this morning and so I've been up since 4:30 this morning.
I just saw a small piece of pistachio on my chest and nearly jumped off the couch thinking it was a bug. Why are bugs so much scarier when you don't expect to see them? Even when they turn out to be small bits of pistachio? WEIRD.
Here's another piece of uselessness for you: Every time. EVERY TIME I type the word 'weird' I first misspell it by switching the e and the i. No, not on purpose. It's not some weird --I swear to you, I just did it again-- OCD ritual, I just have a defect in the part of my brain that spells that word.
Good night.
